Live baccarat with ETH: why I flat-bet the banker and stop early

Baccarat is the game I play when I want something calm at the end of the week. There are no decisions to make once the bet is down. The dealer turns the cards, the result appears, and the next round starts. I play it at live tables using ETH, and over time I have settled into a very plain routine.

First, the maths, because it explains everything else. A banker bet has a house edge of about 1.06% after the usual five percent commission. A player bet sits at around 1.24%. The tie bet, which pays 8 to 1 at most tables, has an edge above 14%. So I bet the banker, every hand, and never touch the tie.

Some tables offer no-commission baccarat, where banker wins pay even money except when the banker wins with a total of six, which pays half. The edge on banker in that version is a little higher, around 1.46%. I avoid it when a standard table is available.

Side bets are everywhere at live baccarat. Pairs, dragon bonus, big and small, perfect pairs. They are fun to watch and they carry much higher edges. I tried them for one session out of curiosity and the balance went down noticeably faster. I have not played them since.

The big temptation in baccarat is pattern spotting. Live tables show scoreboards with long rows of banker and player results, drawn in different styles. They make the game look like it has streaks you can read. Every hand is independent, though, and those boards have zero predictive value. I keep them minimised if the interface allows it.

My session plan is fixed. I deposit a set amount of ETH and bet about two percent of it per hand, the same stake every time. I stop after forty hands or when I am up or down by a quarter of the session balance, whichever comes first. With the low edge, sessions usually end close to where they started, which suits me.

On the ETH side, I care about two things: how quickly deposits are credited and whether the live tables accept small bets in ETH terms. Some casinos convert your ETH to a dollar balance for live games, which adds a spread each way. Others keep the balance in ETH throughout. I prefer the second kind, so I always check the cashier and the table limits before depositing.

I found a couple of good options by going through a list of Ethereum casinos worth a look and opening the live casino section at each one. I looked for standard commission tables from a well-known live studio, low minimums and a balance that stays in ETH.

Baccarat will not make anyone rich. With a flat banker bet and a hard stop, it gives me forty hands of quiet entertainment for a predictable cost, and that is all I ask of it.
